The Dead Canary

Coming in at number one, we have ‘The Dead Canary,’ which is praised for its atmosphere and distinctive drinks made from scratch in their unique and fully-stocked bar. From everything to decor to their menus which include illustrations and stories, this place has got it down to a T! Located near the Cardiff International Arena; this hidden gem is certainly worth the visit.

Rum & Fizz

Rum & Fizz, a sister brand of the famous Gin & Juice, located in the heart of the capital, is a family-run cocktail bar which focuses solely on the spirits! You can expect to taste lots of rum, with lots of fizz in this cosy spot which is definitely worth a visit if you’re from the Cardiff area or just visiting! Whether you want to enjoy an intimate date night or a crazy night with friends, Rum & Fizz caters for all with its extensive menu and unique decor – you will never get bored here!

Tonight Josephine

At number 3, we have a more recent addition to the city centre, ‘Tonight Josephine,’ which opened its doors in April 2022. Famously known for its fluorescent pink interior and Instagrammable neon signs, this bar has been a hit with the younger generation. What makes Tonight Josephine stand out from the crowded streets of Cardiff, is not just the fact that it has an abundance of luscious cocktails, but it is also the place to go for bottomless brunches! From Beyonce drag to decade-themed brunches, there really is an event for everyone, whatever your style!

The Cocktail Club

Number four on Cardiff’s list of top five bars is ‘The Cocktail Club‘. Located in the heart of St Mary’s Street, this bar is popular for its versatility which is spread across the different floors. Looks can be deceiving with the Cocktail Club, as the narrow opening insinuates a small, cosy environment instead of three floors of flowing drinks and bottomless drag brunches. On the first floor, as you walk in, there is the ‘Tiger Bar’, filled out with animal print decor and golden walls, before you go down to the basement where you will find ‘The Den,’ which has a more relaxed atmosphere, perfect for those intimate date settings. Finally, you have the third floor, called ‘The Gallery,’ furnished with a Victorian-era finish and quirky electric art. Each floor has its own bar and own vibe, so whatever kind of night you are hoping for, you can find it on one of the floors in the Cocktail Club!

The Libertine

It’s certainly an occasion for last but certainly not least at number 5 with Cardiff’s ‘The Libertine,’ as this renowned cocktail bar has an array of distinctive drinks served by friendly faces! The Libertine was founded in 2011 and has since opened two more bars, which speaks for itself in terms of its popularity with locals! It’s a place where memories are made, and signature cocktails are consumed whilst surrounded by the most interesting wall art of old-fashioned portraits and neon signs. So if you haven’t already been, it’s time to make some weekend plans at The Libertine!

There is no end of choice when it comes to the amount of bars you can try in Cardiff’s city centre; if you walk down St Mary’s Street you will be greeted with the city’s best of the best, so be sure to check out the five highlighted here and let us know what you think!
